Hay Beef and Forage Day
The Texas AgriLife Extension Service Office and Young County Farm
Bureau Board invite all agricultural producers to take part in the
Annual Hay Beef and Forage Day. It will take place on Wednesday, March
25, at the Young County Arena, starting at 9:30 a.m..
As we move into spring the agricultural sector abounds with questions
and uncertainly. What are the long term prospects for rainfall? Can
rainfall salvage the current wheat crop? Where are fertilizer prices
headed? What is the outlook or cattle prices? What are the changes in
the Farm Bill? Has the corn/ethanol situation stabilized?
Questions such as the above will come to light and will be addressed
by the speakers at this years Hay Day.
Question number one is weather. To get a real feel for our prospects
the National Weather Service is sending State Meteorologist, Daniel
Huckaby to give producers a realistic idea of what is the cause of our
drought and what must occur for our rainfall prospects to improve.
Additionally, the issue of climate change will be examined.
The ag economy is equally as much in a state of flux as the general
economy. Stan Bevers will be on hand to analyze cause and effect trends
that continue to add to the current uncertainly.
From the area of a much needed tool, Gerald Hobson of Du Pont
chemical will be introducing a new product Pastora. Pastora is a
herbicide for the control Grassburrs in coastal bermuda. Grassburrs have
long been a major problem in newly established and mature costal fields.
Legislation concerning agriculture and issues that impact the
industry will be reviewed by Larry Pratt, State Farm Bureau Board
Member.
As with each Hay Day, a noon meal will be provided by Farmers Milling
and Farm Bureau. Producers who need TDA hours will receive 3 hours of
pesticide license credit. For more information on the Hay Day contact
the Young, Palo Pinto Jack or Stephens County Agrilife Extension
Offices.
